What is the autonomic nervous system?
The autonomic nervous system automatically regulates almost all unconscious functions and processes in the body such as breathing, heartbeat, blood pressure, energy production, digestion and metabolism.
The autonomic nervous system has two main parts - two control systems: The sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. They have opposite functions.
- The sympathetic system enables us to survive, fight, flee and perform in life-threatening situations. In this phase, the heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate increase.
- The parasympathetic nervous system is the antagonist of the sympathetic nervous system. When the parasympathetic nervous system is active, the heart rate and blood pressure fall. Muscles and organs are adequately supplied with blood and oxygen. This part of the nervous system takes care of recovery, repair, regeneration and rest.
A disturbance results in an imbalance. NESA therapy helps to correct this imbalance.
